Introduction:
Every year, newer flagship phone products are released and offer either miniscule or monumental upgrades to its predecessors. Samsung introduced their newest release in the Galaxy S10. The device builds upon the previous Galaxy S9, released in 2018. In order to compete with other major companies, such as Apple or Huawei, the Galaxy S10 was upgraded in many departments- its hardware, security, and software changes had a major rework done.
Samsung previously had a major scandal with its Samsung Galaxy S7 edition. The batteries did not fit properly and as a result, they were overheating to the point of combustion. It was a 5 billion dollar mistake that forced a complete recall. Ever since, Samsung has been focused on making sure that their batteries were able to store enough charge so that they can match their competitors and prevent a customer’s health being in danger.
With the new S10, it seems that they were able to reach a new frontier. The company introduced a wireless power share option, an unprecedented innovation that previously did not exist. The pricing can keep people away from the new S10, as it was released with a price of $999.99 , a 238% increase from how much it cost to actually make. For all intents and purposes, the focus will be on the S10+ Model and not the S10 E, S10 or S10 5G variants.

THE DISPLAY:
Figure 1.2
Samsung used an “infinity O” display, using the curve edges in order to spread out the screen more and maximize the limited space that Samsung Engineers have to work with. According to Michelle (2019), they have applied for patents regarding their curved displays, meaning that we could see that they are the only company able to manufacture these types of displays. By cornering the market on this innovation, Samsung is able to add to its identity and brand.

The Camera:
Figure 1.3
Due to the rise of social media, the camera can act as a “do-or-die” in the smartphone industry. Samsung decided to take a three camera approach. According to Scott (2019), the first two cameras are 12 MegaPixel lenses, with a third wide angle camera that has a 16 MegaPixel lens. The major addition here is the 16 MegaPixel lens, as the S9 only has two 12 MegaPixel lenses. Selfies are now better with 10 MegaPixels, unlike the older 8MP version. The new “Super-Steady” mode helps to stabilize the videos taken, improving the quality lost usually to the shaking of the hands of the person doing the recording.
Where Samsung separates itself from the flock is how it targets Instagram users. According to Michelle (2019) they can now use the camera app to directly upload to instagram. This feature is called Instagram Mode and shows the effect that social media has on the development of technology.
Better Security for FingerPrints:
Figure 1.4
The new fingerprint sensor has been redesigned to ensure better security. It now uses sound waves to determine your fingerprint. This innovation reduces the chance that your fingerprint cannot be read if there is something obstructing the sensor, such as dirt or water. It is a huge development in the phone industry and puts pressure on other manufacturers to improve their own sensors. According to Michelle (2019), it is also now embedded in the phone, so smudges are reduced, as opposed to the previous version where the S9 had it on the back, prompting issues with smudging of the cameras as a result. Due to this, Samsung chose to rework how the fingerprint sensor was going to operate.
SPECS DESCRIPTION:
Figure 1.5
The S10 is bigger in size than the S9, as it is 6.1 inches compared to the 5.9 of the Galaxy S9. The previously mentioned Infinity display also is in Amoled, a major upgrade compared to the S9 and even other brand-name smartphones. Although it is larger in length, the S10 is actually lighter than the S9, a 6 gram difference. The operating system has been upgraded to the Android 9.0, with the new addition of the Samsung One UI, bolstering the speed and performance of the phone. The processor is faster, using the newest Octa Core Snapdragon 855, making the phone process images and operate even more fluidly. Interestingly enough, the RAM has been upgraded to 8GB (twice the amount of the S9), meaning games and other applications are able to run more smoothly and less stalling will occur. The S10 also still maintains having a headphone jack, making these upgrades all the more impressive due to less space to work with. (Lynn, 2019)
CONCLUSION:
Samsung has focused on the consumer’s interests and launched a competitor. The S10 has the power of a mini computer and it does not shy away from any challenge. With an upgraded camera, better specs, redefined security, and a patented display the S10 has taken the phone world by storm. As a result, the S10 has shed its former reputation of being an exploding phone company and redefined themselves as the smartphone elite.

Reflection:
The purpose of my technical description was to display the innovative features of the Samsung Galaxy 10 Plus. In order to do so, extensive research was done on what Samsung added to its new release and how it compared to the previous older version of Samsung Galaxy S9. This was done so in order to demonstrate the new improvements done. The genre is that of nonfiction, with the purpose to inform the audience about technological advancements.
As someone who has the S9 Plus, I have experience with the company and it made it easier for me to understand the aforementioned advancements made by the company. With the phone market constantly evolving, big companies such as Apple and Samsung need to consistently adapt with the market. The audience for my writing is for those who are potentially interested in the phone or want to know more about what made it popular and its functionality.
The S10 plus is an amazing technological feat, but I wanted to remain objective in my writing, refraining from any personal sayings or cliches. The readers should have an unbiased read that focuses on the S10’s innovations, rather than a personal monologue about my admiration for the phone. With that in mind, the only aspect that I would argue is not objective is the photos themselves, as they are not my own. These photos have been taken from the internet, where photoshop or photo enhancement cannot be ruled out.
The writing itself is objective and meant to show the reader what is so special about the S10 Plus. I believe that I have done exactly that, while maintaining my objective stance.
